Daytime Swordfishing From Panama City To Pensacola

It's hard to explain year to year how a certain species can go from on to off or how luck can change at the from one calendar year to the next. Either way, the swordfish bite this year has been on fire in the northern Gulf of Mexico.

From Panama City to Pensacola, anglers have enjoyed great weather and multiple hook up days at the sword grounds. It has not been uncommon to get 8-10 bites a day this season.

With its ever growing popularity, it's only a matter of time before the giants start getting caught. So far the swords have been averaging around 100 pounds with the occasional 2-300 pounder. Hopefully this hot trend continues on into the fall.

Large squid continues to be the bait of choice this year. Look for breaks in the bottom around the 2000' range. Remember always let someone know where you are going and be safe. Sword fishing is a very in depth and sometimes dangerous sport due to the long distances anglers must travel.
